Rapier
Fencing was Nicolo's primary reason for finding and joining the SCA in 2011, and remains his main area of focus. His area of interest is predominantly in the study and application of historical styles, with a preference for the Italian masters such as Ridolfo Capo Ferro and Nicoletto Giganti. While single-sword and sword-and-dagger are his most common styles, he has as special fondness for the targa (wavelike pattern buckler) and rotella (large round shield) as off-hand devices.
Siege
Nicolo has been active in the siege community since authorizing in 2013. He has built two engines to date: A traction trebuchet and a counter weight trebuchet, both based on early Chinese designs that were later found in Europe. He also acts as the custodian of Sigfodr, an oak arbalest built by Sir Jonathas Reinisch and owned by Master William le Younger. He occasionally teaches classes on siege weapons to both adults and children.
Forestry
While not a formally sworn Forester, Nicolo has had a lifelong interest in the outdoors and primitive bushcraft skills. His main area of expertise is cordage and knot-tying.
Crafts
He dabbles in woodworking and has made several camp items, including a settle (a combination seat and chest), a six foot "war dart" for thrown weapons, a collapsible storage rack for rapier equipment (plans of which are posted here), and support parts for canvas pavilions. He also knits and occasionally makes simple leather goods.
