Heraldry

Per chevron inverted sable and argent, a horn-crested helmet affronty and two wings conjoined counterchanged, in chief a ducal coronet Or.

Early in my SCA adventure, I had the honor of being the herald for Duke Olaf as he entered the Atlantian Crown Tourney. He made me feel at ease and appreciated... and completely destroyed any chance of me suffering from the infamous peer fear.

Olaf, the Gallant Knight

O knight whose piety doth brightly shine,
With noble heart and mirthful jest at play,
Thy shaded eyes, beneath their brow’s incline,
Have oft beheld both dawn and close of day.

Thy blades, twin flashes in the battle’s fray,
Defend the weak, their cries thou dost divine.
To hearth and kin, thy love doth find its way—
O knight whose piety doth brightly shine!

When feast is set, and goblets sweet with wine,
Thou dost regale thy friends in ribald sway.
Yet still thy prayers to Heaven intertwine
With noble heart and mirthful jest at play.

No quest too far, no plea thou wouldst gainsay;
Thy path is lit by stars that kindly shine.
Thy shaded eyes, where secrets seem to stay,
Betray a soul of laughter intertwined.

Though years weigh heavy, steadfast thou dost stay;
Thy vigor undiminished, nigh divine.
O knight whose piety doth brightly shine,
With noble heart and mirthful jest at play.

Should time lay claim to thee, thy deeds align
With glory’s tale that minstrels shall portray.
Thy shaded eyes will watch the stars decline,
And welcome morn at Heaven’s break of day.
