Date of Birth: 1320
Place of Origin: Schwanau, Alsace
Odile is named for the Saint Odile of Alsace, an 8th century abbess who founded monasteries and a hospital. This is somewhat syncretic since she was from a Cathar family who were not Catholic. Indeed, Crusaders repeatedly besieged her hometown, and in 1333 she came to Strasbourg as a refugee. [to be continued…]
