Introduction

Brōþor Meſel Cifeſboren (BROW-thor MEH-sell CHEE-fes-bor-en) is a 14th-century CE itinerant monk of questionable lineage and dubious morality. He is the last illegitimate member and heir of the minor noble house, Wyvern Hall, though he carries no title himself. He is of advanced age and well-versed in the lore of the Society, but is persona non ludens by choice and, to a degree, out of prudent necessity. Meſel was first noted to be in Atlantia in the waning days of A.S. LX.

Persona

Little is known about Meſel aside from his nebulous relationship with Macsen ap Rhys of Wyvern Hall (now deceased). As an illegitimate offspring of a minor house, he was sent off at an early age to study for the priesthood. There are rumors that he may have studied with the learned Franciscan William of Ockham for a time, whose philosophy he embraced, aside from the bits about living in poverty. It is said that he eventually settled in a Benedictine abbey in Northern Italy, where he did finally receive ordination, although that cannot be verified as the abbey library burned to the ground during a visit by another Franciscan, William of Baskerville, in Anno Domini 1327. It is believed that Meſel left the abbey at about that time.

Meſel's whereabouts after that fire are uncertain; it is only known that he made his way back to England in time to conveniently inherit the meager estate and holdings of the recently deceased Macsen, which he immediately squandered on mead, wanton women, and (allegedly) sheep. It is reported that he may occasionally be encountered on the fringes of faires and festivals selling indulgences and holy relics.
