Baron Cataldo Querini, [[OL]], [[OD]] of Atlantia, currently resides in the [[Shire of Isenfir]] (Charlottesville, VA). He is an active fencer on both the heavy [[rapier]] and [[Cut and Thrust]] fields. He is also an artisan, focusing primarily on [[chasing]] and [[repoussé]], [[blacksmithing]], and [[armouring]]. Baron Cataldo generally portrays a 15th century retired Venetian condottiere during his time in the Society. == SCA History ==
Baron Cataldo first encountered the SCA while serving in the United States Army in the Kingdom of [[Calontir]]. Initially drawn to the Society by an interest in making [[armour]], he soon began fighting on the chivalric field. While in the Shire of Dun Ard, he served as the [[Knight Marshal]] for two years. Cataldo then moved to the Kingdom of [[Ansteorra]] at the request of his noble Uncle Samuel, his rightful Federal Lord.
Upon arriving in the Kingdom of Ansteorra and attending a single fighter practice, Cataldo almost immediately sent once again on a second crusade to Mesopotamia. When he returned to Ansteorra, he began regularly attending practices in his home group, the Stronghold of Hellsgate. During his time there, he was honored to serve as the Stronghold’s Deputy [[Seneschal]] and joined Clan Macuredaig as a [[Squire]] to Sir Maelgyn Dda.

As he became more involved in the chivalric fighting community, Cataldo fought for the Barony of Bryn Gwlad in many melee engagements and was selected to serve as the Baronial War Company Commander. As one of his last great hurrahs before leaving the Kingdom of Ansteorra, Lord Cataldo fought in [[Crown Tourney]]; while he may not have won Crown Tourney, he did win the [[Arts & Sciences]] Tournament. This means that he can legitimately claim to have ''“fought in Crown and won the tournament that day”''.

Due to injuries received from the enemies of his Federal Lord during Cataldo’s first crusade, he was forbidden from chivalric combat by several slightly surly [[chirurgeons]]. At the same time, Cataldo was also retired from the service of his Federal Lord, leaving him time to develop his skills as a scholar and practitioner of the art of the duello.

Arriving in the Kingdom of Atlantia, Cataldo began once again working on his artistic endeavors, being honored with the position of [[Baronial Arts & Sciences Champion]] of the [[Barony of Tir-y-Don]]. During his tenure as the Baronial Champion, he taught several classes on [[metalworking]] and medieval hunting. This would serve as a wonderful stepping stone in Cataldo’s artistic journey, placing him in position to later become the [[Arts & Sciences Champion]] for the Kingdom of Atlantia. As Kingdom Champion, he represented the Kingdom with his artwork at both [[Gulf Wars]] and The Great [[Pennsic War]] as well as sponsoring several competitions at various events.

Cataldo’s interests were not limited to merely artistic pursuits however, as he continued to expand his repertoire of fencing skills. Authorized in [[Cut and Thrust]], Cataldo makes it a point to annoy each fencer he meets by asking them if (and when) they too will become Cut and Thrust authorized. He does not intend to stop doing this and has even successfully helped several fencers authorize in Cut and Thrust. As a member of [[The Company of the Dragoon Guards]], Cataldo intends to take up arms against his Kingdom’s enemies and smite their ruin (safely) upon the field of battle. He is supported in this by [[Despotes Charimmos of Lakadaimonias]], a fine gentleman whom Cataldo serves as [[Ensign]] and has betrayed several times. Cataldo has once again been cleared for heavy combat and took the field at both Gulf Wars and Pennsic.

Baroness Margaret Lad, OP currently resides within the Shire of Isenfir in the Kingdom of Atlantia. She first began playing in the SCA in 2013 in the Barony of Storvik, Washington DC mundanely. Her primary interests are shooting archery, embroidery, and serving the Society and its Newcomers as a Chatelain.

Daughter to William Lad of Berlynge and his wife Eleanor. Margaret’s father and his brother, John, fought as English mercenaries in the Battle of Castagnaro (1387) as members of the White Company under the command of Sir John Hawkwood after their service at Poitiers. While her father was killed during the battle, John returned home and was granted land and a Baronet for both his service and monetary donations to the Crown in order to continue to fund the Hundred Years War. With her mother a widow, John marries her in order to retain rights to William’s land and wealth. John then marries Margaret to Lord [[Cataldo Querini]] - another member of the White Company, Condottieri, and minor Italian nobility.

While Baroness Margaret's main persona is 14th Century English, she has been known to dabble in the periods of Imperial Rome and 15th and 16th Century Europe.

Colette is a [[Sea Dragon]] that started in the [[Barony of Black Diamond]] in February 2014 under [[Aldemere McRafe|Master Aldemere]]’s instruction. She then moved to the [[Barony of Marinus]] later that year and became their [[rapier champion]] during her stay there. At the end of 2016, she moved to the [[Barony of Ponte Alto]] and became their rapier champion in February 2017. In August 2017, she joined the [[Order of the Sea Dragon]] at [[Pennsic War]] and moved to the [[Barony of Storvik]].

At Ice Castles 2018, she became [[Formal Students|ensign and aide]] to Master [[Dominyk Wolferam]]. Colette then officially joined the [[The Dragoon Guards]] at [[Ymir]] 2018. At Pennsic War 2018, Master Dominyk, along with Master [[Brian de Moray]] and Master [[Aeron Harper]], raised her to the rank of Free Scholar in the [[Academie d'Espee]].

In September 2018, Colette, along with several of Dragoons, attended [[Rip Rap War]] II and proceeded to lay claim to Rip Rap Island. As insurance toward the claim, then-Unit Commander Lord [[Ffernfael Kymro]] offered Marinus then-Second in Command Lady Colette as their Rapier Champion for the coming year. Later that month, Colette moved back to the Barony of Ponte Alto.

In the Spring of 2019, Colette became the [[Knight Marshal]] for Ponte Alto martial combat. In the Summer of 2019, Colette took over running the [[Blacksword Tournament]], joining the [[Atlantian Rapier Army]] Command Staff in an administrative role. The following ‘season’ for the Blacksword Tournament, which started after Pennsic in August, was on track to double the number of tournaments as the previous season before the Plague of 2020 cancelled half of the season. However, in February 2020, just before the Plague, Colette set up representatives from the Mid and South of the Kingdom (Lord Tiberius and Baron Lochlainn) to assist in organizing and collecting data for the Blacksword Tournaments in the future.

In the Lost Spring & Summer of 2020, Colette assumed command of the Dragoon Guards and, with her help of her XO Lord [[Jacques Gonse]], decided to turn the focus of the house inward towards fostering their interns and building the house prowess back up to the top of the melee field. Also during this time, Colette began forming a group of [[Scholars]] and [[Free Scholars]] across the Kingdom so they could bond and plan for the future of the rapier community. At an early age, she participated in A&S competitions and won a ribbon at the NC State Fair for her plate of SCA Fine Cakes. Sigrid began volunteering in the kitchen at 10. She won her first Kingdom A&S award in 2008.

The '''Order of the Pelican''' is a Society-wide order that is awarded for significant [[service]]s to the Society. It is one of five [[Awards#Bestowed_Peerages|Bestowed Peerages]]. The order bestows a [[Patent of Arms]] and the members are titled "Master" or "Mistress" or other ethnic or linguistic variation. In addition, they are entitled to wear a badge of either ''A pelican vulning herself'' or ''A pelican in her piety''. Some Pelicans choose to take on associates or students referred to as [[protégé]]s.

The first recipient of the Order of the Pelican was Bevin Fraser of Sterling in 1972.

== Introduction ==
I am ''Mu'allimah'' (Arabic language title for a female-identifying Laurel) Tala al-Zahra. In the SCA, I study linguistics, onomastics, philosophy, natural sciences, epigraphy, and archery. I mostly focus on the ''Tamazgha'' region of Northern Africa, historically inhabited by the Amazigh (aka, "Berber") people, but I explore other topics and regions as curiosity dictates.

I take the POV of an Amazigh woman of Zenata lineage. Tala lives in the city of Fes, under the Marinid Sultanate (modern-day Morocco), which ruled the area from the 13th-15th centuries CE. Baron Cataldo Querini, [[OL]], [[OD]] of Atlantia, currently resides in the [[Shire of Isenfir]] (Charlottesville, VA). He is an active fencer on both the heavy [[rapier]] and [[Cut and Thrust]] fields. He is also an artisan, focusing primarily on [[chasing]] and [[repoussé]], [[blacksmithing]], and [[armouring]]. Baron Cataldo generally portrays a 15th century retired Venetian condottiere during his time in the Society. == SCA History ==
Baron Cataldo first encountered the SCA while serving in the United States Army in the Kingdom of [[Calontir]]. Initially drawn to the Society by an interest in making [[armour]], he soon began fighting on the chivalric field. While in the Shire of Dun Ard, he served as the [[Knight Marshal]] for two years. Cataldo then moved to the Kingdom of [[Ansteorra]] at the request of his noble Uncle Samuel, his rightful Federal Lord.
Upon arriving in the Kingdom of Ansteorra and attending a single fighter practice, Cataldo almost immediately sent once again on a second crusade to Mesopotamia. When he returned to Ansteorra, he began regularly attending practices in his home group, the Stronghold of Hellsgate. During his time there, he was honored to serve as the Stronghold’s Deputy [[Seneschal]] and joined Clan Macuredaig as a [[Squire]] to Sir Maelgyn Dda.

As he became more involved in the chivalric fighting community, Cataldo fought for the Barony of Bryn Gwlad in many melee engagements and was selected to serve as the Baronial War Company Commander. As one of his last great hurrahs before leaving the Kingdom of Ansteorra, Lord Cataldo fought in [[Crown Tourney]]; while he may not have won Crown Tourney, he did win the [[Arts & Sciences]] Tournament. This means that he can legitimately claim to have ''“fought in Crown and won the tournament that day”''.

Due to injuries received from the enemies of his Federal Lord during Cataldo’s first crusade, he was forbidden from chivalric combat by several slightly surly [[chirurgeons]]. At the same time, Cataldo was also retired from the service of his Federal Lord, leaving him time to develop his skills as a scholar and practitioner of the art of the duello.

Arriving in the Kingdom of Atlantia, Cataldo began once again working on his artistic endeavors, being honored with the position of [[Baronial Arts & Sciences Champion]] of the [[Barony of Tir-y-Don]]. During his tenure as the Baronial Champion, he taught several classes on [[metalworking]] and medieval hunting. This would serve as a wonderful stepping stone in Cataldo’s artistic journey, placing him in position to later become the [[Arts & Sciences Champion]] for the Kingdom of Atlantia. As Kingdom Champion, he represented the Kingdom with his artwork at both [[Gulf Wars]] and The Great [[Pennsic War]] as well as sponsoring several competitions at various events.

Cataldo’s interests were not limited to merely artistic pursuits however, as he continued to expand his repertoire of fencing skills. Authorized in [[Cut and Thrust]], Cataldo makes it a point to annoy each fencer he meets by asking them if (and when) they too will become Cut and Thrust authorized. He does not intend to stop doing this and has even successfully helped several fencers authorize in Cut and Thrust. As a member of [[The Company of the Dragoon Guards]], Cataldo intends to take up arms against his Kingdom’s enemies and smite their ruin (safely) upon the field of battle. He is supported in this by [[Despotes Charimmos of Lakadaimonias]], a fine gentleman whom Cataldo serves as [[Ensign]] and has betrayed several times. Cataldo has once again been cleared for heavy combat and took the field at both Gulf Wars and Pennsic.

Baron Cataldo Querini, [[OL]], [[OD]] of Atlantia, currently resides in the [[Shire of Isenfir]] (Charlottesville, VA). He is an active fencer on both the heavy [[rapier]] and [[Cut and Thrust]] fields. He is also an artisan, focusing primarily on [[chasing]] and [[repoussé]], [[blacksmithing]], and [[armouring]]. Baron Cataldo generally portrays a 15th century retired Venetian condottiere during his time in the Society. == SCA History ==
Baron Cataldo first encountered the SCA while serving in the United States Army in the Kingdom of [[Calontir]]. Initially drawn to the Society by an interest in making [[armour]], he soon began fighting on the chivalric field. While in the Shire of Dun Ard, he served as the [[Knight Marshal]] for two years. Cataldo then moved to the Kingdom of [[Ansteorra]] at the request of his noble Uncle Samuel, his rightful Federal Lord.
Upon arriving in the Kingdom of Ansteorra and attending a single fighter practice, Cataldo almost immediately sent once again on a second crusade to Mesopotamia. When he returned to Ansteorra, he began regularly attending practices in his home group, the Stronghold of Hellsgate. During his time there, he was honored to serve as the Stronghold’s Deputy [[Seneschal]] and joined Clan Macuredaig as a [[Squire]] to Sir Maelgyn Dda.

As he became more involved in the chivalric fighting community, Cataldo fought for the Barony of Bryn Gwlad in many melee engagements and was selected to serve as the Baronial War Company Commander. As one of his last great hurrahs before leaving the Kingdom of Ansteorra, Lord Cataldo fought in [[Crown Tourney]]; while he may not have won Crown Tourney, he did win the [[Arts & Sciences]] Tournament. This means that he can legitimately claim to have ''“fought in Crown and won the tournament that day”''.

Due to injuries received from the enemies of his Federal Lord during Cataldo’s first crusade, he was forbidden from chivalric combat by several slightly surly [[chirurgeons]]. At the same time, Cataldo was also retired from the service of his Federal Lord, leaving him time to develop his skills as a scholar and practitioner of the art of the duello.

Arriving in the Kingdom of Atlantia, Cataldo began once again working on his artistic endeavors, being honored with the position of [[Baronial Arts & Sciences Champion]] of the [[Barony of Tir-y-Don]]. During his tenure as the Baronial Champion, he taught several classes on [[metalworking]] and medieval hunting. This would serve as a wonderful stepping stone in Cataldo’s artistic journey, placing him in position to later become the [[Arts & Sciences Champion]] for the Kingdom of Atlantia. As Kingdom Champion, he represented the Kingdom with his artwork at both [[Gulf Wars]] and The Great [[Pennsic War]] as well as sponsoring several competitions at various events.

Cataldo’s interests were not limited to merely artistic pursuits however, as he continued to expand his repertoire of fencing skills. Authorized in [[Cut and Thrust]], Cataldo makes it a point to annoy each fencer he meets by asking them if (and when) they too will become Cut and Thrust authorized. He does not intend to stop doing this and has even successfully helped several fencers authorize in Cut and Thrust. As a member of [[The Company of the Dragoon Guards]], Cataldo intends to take up arms against his Kingdom’s enemies and smite their ruin (safely) upon the field of battle. He is supported in this by [[Despotes Charimmos of Lakadaimonias]], a fine gentleman whom Cataldo serves as [[Ensign]] and has betrayed several times. Cataldo has once again been cleared for heavy combat and took the field at both Gulf Wars and Pennsic.
