== Introduction ==
Ealdercote is Old English that translates roughly into "This Old House" The name came out of an amusing observation that it plays on the names of its founders and at the time they considered informally creating a household, there was a lot of DiY work being done on their house.<P>
Ealdercote is just Eldred and Ealdthryth doing stuff they like or doing things they see needing to be done. Between the two of them, they've held numerous offices in the SCA--primarily technical, administrative, or paperwork-oriented. Eldred is the more artistically-inclined of the two, and has at various times been a moderately prolific scribe and promoter of education within Atlantia. Ealdthryth is the keeper of the Ealdercote schedule and primary functioning brain of Ealdercote. She also does most of the web-oriented work and anything to do with lists/Lists.
<P>
Every once in a while, Eldred might be able to be persuaded to open the Red Ale Inn to allow people to play period board games and demonstrate the mechanics of period games of chance.

== Introduction ==
Eldred is currently Triton Principal Herald of Atlantia. He is also a Companion of the Order of the Pelican, and a Companion of the Order of the Laurel (primarily for calligraphy & illumination).
His introduction to the SCA was at a few events in the mid-1980's in the Barony Marche of the Debateable Lands where his interest in archery was sparked.
In the early 1990's, he began attending events in Atlantia and additional arts and skills began to draw his attention--specifically: calligraphy, illumination, and brewing.
Calligraphy and Illumination led to heraldry. Heraldry led to architecture and stained glass. Architecture led to an interest in period furniture and woodworking. Woodworking led to game boards and thus, to games and numismatics.
In short, every dive into a particular art turns into a sideways exploration into other arts.

The order in which the heraldry is displayed is from the center out in order of registration of the first 20 or so members, then by when the individual joined the household or when they registered their armory while in the household. This is the third heraldic rose window Eldred created-the first two were for the Cantons of Falconcree and Cyddlain Downs.

| '''Nottinghill Coill Chairs of State''' <BR> Magnus Iain Craig (who is a master cabinetmaker by trade) provided the mentoring and some of the joinery skill, but the vast majority of the work was completed by Eldred over several months (700 hours total). The design is based on the "Glastonbury chair" but with some hidden modern upgrades and redimensioning from the original plans. The chair is completely made from ash and finished with a ground walnut stain and sealed with three layers of hand-rubbed carnuba wax and linseed oil mix.
